Two missing after floods hit central region

(VOV) -Flooding across a number of Central Region localities has left two people missing and caused traffic congestion along many sections of National Highways No. 14G and 49.



The two missing residents were reported in Dong Giang district’s Ma Coih and Ca Dang communes, Quang Nam province, after flooding on the morning of September 19.


The Vu Gia and Ai Nghia Rivers continue to rise, submerging roads throughout the central region.

More than 1,300 local people have been evacuated from Quang Nam’s Dai Loc district and moved to safer areas.


In Quang Tri province, around 1,500 residents were forced to temporarily move to avoid landslides and torrential rains.


Flooding levels fell 0.7m on September 19 but many houses in Quang Tri province’s Huong Hoa district were already inundated. Children and the elderly have been taken to safety.


Sections of the Ho Chi Minh Highway passing through Quang Binh province’s Minh Hoa district are under water. Hundreds of ships have been mobilised to help local victims and assist children return to school as quickly as possible.


Local police and rescue volunteers are working together to evacuate flood victims and ease traffic congestion.
