Beating Laos 1-0 in the semifinals of the Southeast Asian U-19 Football Championships today, Vietnam secured a ticket to play the final game with either host Indonesia or Timor Leste.
The only goal was scored in the 74th minute by striker Cong Phuong, who drifted the ball past the rival defensive wall and Laotian goalkeeper to cushion home the win.
During the last 15 minutes of the match, Vietnam created several clear chances but Phuong, Tuan Anh, and Thanh Tung failed to convert them into goals.
Laotian coach Liepvisay was dismissed from managing his team on the field in the 69th minute for arguing with the referee.
However, it was the Laotian players that surprised Vietnam with several good chances during the first minutes of the match.
Vietnam moved to the semifinals after leading group B of the tournament taking place in Indonesia with all 15 points after five matches.
