Vietnam vows further cooperation with Malaysia

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong has affirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy to foster friendship and multifaceted cooperation with countries in the region, including Malaysia.


The Party chief made the statement while meeting on September 6 with Malaysian Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah who is on a State visit to Vietnam.


He voiced his pleasure at the development of the two countries’ relations and expressed his belief that the king’s visit will contribute to further strengthening the ties between the two nations.


The host suggested both sides continue the exchange of high-ranking delegations and expand cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, education, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.


The Malaysian Sultan congratulated Vietnam on its great achievements in socio-economic development and its growing position in the regional and international arenas.


He briefed the host on the outcome of his meetings with President Truong Tan Sang, in which both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in economics, bilateral trade and effective coordination in international forums, especially ASEAN.


The Sultan took the occasion to invite General Secretary Trong to visit Malaysia. The Party chief accepted the invitation with pleasure.


The visit of Sultan Abdul Halim, which will last until September 8, aims to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Malaysia.
