Some reliable sources revealed that HCMC authorities will name Hanoi Highway after Gen. Giap, who masterminded the battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954, because the street adjoins Dien Bien Phu street and a street named after General. Mai Chi Tho.

The Hanoi government is considering naming a major street in the heart of the capital after the General to honor his great contributions to the nation.

General Vo Nguyen Giap died at the age of 103 this month. The country held a two-day state funeral for him on October 12 and 13.

Vo Chi Cong, president of Vietnam from 1987 to 1991, died in HCMC at age 99 in 2011.
