The Bureau of Testing and Inspecting Quality (the Ministry of Education and Training) has just announced Phu Yen’s average rank in the 2013 the university entrance exam at 12.57, the 35th position among the entire 63 provinces and cities. This is good news because Phu Yen’s former high school graduation rank was almost at the penultimate position in the country. Phu Yen Newspaper interviewed the Deputy Director of Phu Yen Department of Education and Training, Mr. Ngo Ngoc Thu as related to this issue.
* Recently, the Department of Testing and Inspecting Quality has announced the average rank of the university entrance examination with Phu Yen at the 35th position out of the 63 provinces, cities nationwide. Does it partially relieve the pressure on Phu Yen’s educational sector?
- After releasing the official result on the entrance examination to universities throughout the country in 2013, the Ministry of Education-Training aggregated scores in the university entrance exam, ranking high schools, provinces and cities nationwide. Phu Yen’s average score into the faculties of A, B, C, D in 2013 was 12.57, ranking the 35th among the 63 provinces and cities. Luong Van Chanh high school for gifted is still at the top of 200 high schools with high average score of university enrollment among over 3,000 high schools nationwide. This is a rather high result, beyond the provincial educational sector’s expectation; a substantive result from of an actual work.
Phu Yen is a province with lots of economic difficulties, the average income is very low, so investment in education and training is hard to meet the requirements. However, with teachers’ capacity, levels, efforts along with students’ hardness and diligence, we have done what many other places with more favorable conditions have not. We take great pride in this result, having peace of mind and confidence in the future.
* To improve the educational quality, which tasks will be focused on by Phu Yen’s Education and Training sector, sir?
- Inheriting the achievements in previous academic-year, this year, Phu Yen’s education and training sector continues to strengthen measures to improve the quality of teaching – learning to further reduce badly-learning students and dropouts, make plans to foster, teach more to sustainably increase the rates of excellent and good students … Besides, the educational sector will pay attention to investing and developing the teaching staff through training and fostering activities; fully implement the policies for teachers in remote and extremely difficult areas; develop schools, classrooms and enhance educational establishments and facilities towards standardization and modernization … In this school-year, Phu Yen’s education and training sector will also implement the teacher-recruitment for high-schools. Initially, this process will be piloted among 106 teachers teaching at the units under the Department’s direct management, in the form of 1-to-3 year contracts.
The work to improve the educational quality is more difficult; however, we have great confidence that with teachers’ and students’ diligence, hardness and enthusiasm in teaching and learning, with the spirit: real studying-real examining-real results, Phu Yen’s education and training sector will always have a rightful place among the 63 provinces and cities throughout the country on the shifting national generally educational path.
