HA NOI (VNS)— Viet Nam has dedicatedly preserved natural heritage sites for both Vietnamese people and foreign friends to visit, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has declared.
While receiving Peter Hitchcock, a consultant for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) yesterday, Nhan spoke highly of the recent working visit made by the IUCN delegation to Cat Ba archipelago in the sea territories of northern Hai Phong City.
In addition to UNESCO-recognised world natural heritage sites such as Ha Long Bay (northern Quang Ninh Province) and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park (central Quang Binh Province), relevant agencies in Viet Nam have exerted efforts to preserve other natural sights and would like UNESCO to acknowledge them as well, Nhan said.
He added that the Vietnamese Government continued instructing relevant ministries and agencies to support Hai Phong in protecting the environment and biodiversity for Cat Ba archipelago.
For his part, Hitchcock said that Cat Ba was one among world’s most beautiful places with an incredibly diverse ecosystem and confirmed that the file applying for it to receive world natural heritage site status was currently being appraised by representatives of the IUCN consultancy. — VNS
