VGP – The first political consultation between foreign ministries of Viet Nam and Uruguay took place in Ha Noi from October 3-5.
Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Phuong Nga represented the Vietnamese side meanwhile her counterpart Luis Porto led the Uruguayan delegation.
The two sides briefed each other about recent developments in their countries and praised positive progress in the bilateral relations, particularly after President Tabare Vazquez’s visit to Viet Nam in November 2007.
Mr. Luis Porto congratulated on the achievements gained by Viet Nam during the renewal process as well as its rising prestige on the international arena.
Uruguay regards Viet Nam as an important partner in East Asia and stands ready to cooperate with Viet Nam in such fields like economics, trade, agriculture, telecommunication and petroleum, affirmed the Uruguayan Vice Foreign Minister.
Deputy Foreign Minister Nga reiterated that the Government of Viet Nam attaches importance to consolidating and enhancing friendship and cooperation with Uruguay.
She urged the two countries to beef up exchange of delegations and called on Uruguay to recognize Viet Nam’s market economy.
Both sides agreed to boost negotiations for quick conclusion of a trade and investment framework agreement (TIFA) and establish a joint committee for economic and trade cooperation.
The two Deputy Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern and vowed to continue enhancing coordination at international organizations and multi-lateral forums for the sake of their people and for common peace, stability and development./.
