PANO – The glorious Dam Doi, Cai Nuoc and Cha La victories 50 years ago were highlighted at a seminar, jointly organized by the Ca Mau provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee, the Military Zone 9′s Command and the Vietnam Military History Institute on November 23rd in Dam Doi district.
The event, attended by General Pham Van Tra, former Minister of National Defence and Major General Nguyen Hoang Thuy, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Military Zone 9, aims to draw valuable lessons from the victories to diversify Vietnamese military art and to help the zone build comprehensively strong armed forces, as well as educate present and future generations about revolutionary tradition and patriotism.
The seminar also reaffirmed the role and the wise leadership of the Party on revolutionary movements in the Southwestern region, and evaluated the cooperation of the armed forces.
50 years ago, the armed forces in the Southwestern region cooperated with troops and people in Ca Mau province to achieve many glorious feats of arms in Dam Doi, Cai Nuoc and Cha La, capturing around 1,500 enemy troops, shooting down 22 airplanes, seizing hundreds of 81mm and 61mm mortars and other military equipment.
These historic victories symbolize valour, creativity and solidarity of the zone’s armed forces and people of Ca Mau province, making contributions to defeating the US “Special War” strategy.
The same day, the Ca Mau provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee held a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the Relic Site of Dam Doi, Cai Nuoc and Cha La Victories in Cha La hamlet, Tran Phan commune, Dam Doi district.
