(VOV) -Renowned British Conductor Colin Metters has led the November 21-22 “UK Concert” at Hanoi Opera House, celebrating the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and the UK.

The concert also commemorated the British Council’s 20th year in Vietnam.

The British Council first invited Colin Metters to Vietnam 16 years ago to assist with training the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra. Their cooperation grew into one of the most successful and longest running UK-Vietnam cultural partnerships.

Metters was one of the first foreign conductors ever to work in Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Government awarded him its Cultural Activist Medal in 1999 for his services to Vietnamese culture.
