Over the years, Vietnam has become an important partner on water management for the Netherlands. The two nations are strategic partners regarding integrated water resources management. This partnership is all about the new way of working, where Dutch and Vietnamese government, experts and researchers jointly look into feasible solutions for long term strategies.

The Hanoi-Amsterdam high school for the gifted (now located in Trung Hoa – Nhan Chinh urban area) was founded with the support of the people of the city of Amsterdam. It was the former mayor of Amsterdam, Mr Samkalden, who started a campaign to mobilize his people to donate for the establishment of a high school, thus demonstrating their support to the citizens of the capital Hanoi during the American War. The official commencement of the first school year at the school was on September 5, 1985./.
