(CPV) - On November 17, the laying of the Phu Quoc - Ha Tien undersea 110kv cable was kicked off by the Southern Power Corporation (EVN SPC) in Ha Ninh commune, Phu Quoc island, the southern province of Kien Giang.

(CPV) - On November 17, the laying of the Phu Quoc - Ha Tien undersea 110kv cable was kicked off by the Southern Power Corporation (EVN SPC) in Ha Ninh commune, Phu Quoc island, the southern province of Kien Giang.



Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang praised the efforts of the Electricity of Vietnam Southern Power Company (EVN SPC) in bringing electricity to remote regions, particularly islands and border areas.


He affirmed that the implementation of the state policy to provide electricity to remote provinces has contributed to significant improvements in the local economy and infrastructure. In additional, it also improved defence, security and quality of life for people living in these areas.


The project totals over VND2.33 trillion (USD11 billion), mainly sourced from the World Bank. After one year of implementation, two out of three items of the project are completed.


It is expected to be completed six months earlier than the plan. It will provide electricity for 21,000 households on the Phu Quoc island before the celebration of the 2014 lunar New Year (Tet) Festival.


Together with meeting the current demands, the project provides power to important additional charges such as, Phu Quoc international airport, An Thoi international airport, Duong Dong domestic airport, Ganh Dau and Bai Tho communes./.
