Mumbai- India’s biggest economic and financial hub is considered an engine of the national economy, being listed among the world’s ten largest trade centres.
(VOV) – Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on November 22 attended the Mumbai business forum which attracted representatives from India’s leading groups and firms operating in industry, hi-technology, pharmaceuticals, trade and service.
Addressing the forum, Party leader Trong applauded the fruitful trade and investment cooperation between the two nations and highlighted huge potential for broader cooperation in the future.
India is one of Vietnam’s 10 biggest trade partners with a year-on-year increase of 10 percent in bilateral trade.
Indian businesses have so far poured US$250 million into 74 projects in Vietnam.
At their talks, Party leader Trong and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have set a US$15 billion trade target by 2020.
Trong described Vietnam and India as the two Asian dynamic economies which share similarities and their own strengths through which they can supplement and support each other.
He also affirmed Vietnam’s willingness to act as a bridge for Indian businesses to penetrate the ASEAN market.
Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) representatives said that the Indian business community considers Vietnam to be a promising and great potential destination.
Indian enterprises are keen to cooperate with their Vietnamese counterparts in such fields as oil and gas, hydropower electricity, steel, mechanical manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, food processing, information technology, railway and road transport and human resources.
Indian business representatives said that opening direct air routes from Vietnam to Dehli, Mumbai, Kolkata, granting longer term visa granting and building a Vietnam-based Indian industrial park will offer more favourable conditions for boosting wider cooperation in economics, investment, trade and tourism between Vietnam and India.
