Storm ‘Krosa’ approaching Quang Tri,Quang Ngai Provinces

Storm ‘Krosa’ is moving at a very rapid pace to hit the coastline of Quang Tri and Quang Ngai Provinces by November 4, according to the National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center.

According to weather forecasts, the storm was located 220 kilometers north northeast off Paracel Islands at longitude 18.6 degrees north and latitude 112.9 degrees east with strong winds of level 12-13 near the eye of the storm by 10am on November 3.


Within the next 24-48 hours, the storm will change direction west southwestwards at speed of 15-20km per hour. By 10am on November 4, the storm will be located along the coast of Quang Tri and Quang Ngai Provinces at longitude 16.2 degrees north and latitude 109.4 degrees east. The strongest winds near the eye of the storm will be of level 9-11.


Within next 48-72 hours, the storm will continue to move west southwestwards at 15-20km per hour.


Due to the effect of the storm, the territorial waters of the northern parts of the East Sea will see strong winds of level 10-12 near the eye of the storm. On the morning of November 3, territorial waters off Paracel Islands saw strong winds of level 7 and later upto level 8-9. The storm sustained wind speeds of level 10-13 near the center.


Authorities in the central coastal provinces are working with families of ship-owners to ask all vessels to move to safer locations to avoid the fury of the storm.


Until the evening of November 2, about 36,555 boats and 122,771 fishermen had already moved to safer shores. However, 44 vessels and 427 fishermen were still out on the East Sea.


On November 2, authorities in the central provinces had sent urgent telegrams to cities and districts to mobilize young people to help in measures to face the fury of the storm as well as move residents to safer locations once the storm makes landfall.
