VGP – The Ministry of Science and Technology and the British Embassy signed a memorandum of understanding on co-operation in peaceful use of nuclear energy on November 28 in Ha Noi.
The memorandum constitutes efforts from both sides to address the challenges of meeting growing energy demand.
Under the framework of the memorandum, the two countries will focus on exchanging scientific and technical information and documentation.
For the next 5 years, the two countries will focus on building legal regulations, strengthening human resources, studying and developing civil nuclear power plants, applying radiation in socio-economic development, and strengthening the management of radiation waste.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese deputy minister of science and technology Le Dinh Tiensaid that Viet Nam is starting its nuclear energy program.Therefore, it is of high significance to cooperate with and learn from such an advanced-technology and experienced nation as the UK. The efficient cooperation of the two sides contributes to promoting the successful use of nuclear energy for peace.
British Ambassador to Viet Nam Antony Stokes affirmed that the signing of this MoU confirmed Britain’s intention to share its expertise with Viet Nam.
The Vietnamese and British governments signed a Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership in 2010, in which science and technology is one of the priorities.
