Participants examined all forms of violence against women and girls, reviewed results from research, and made recommendations concerning policy revision in Vietnam.
Pham Ngoc Tien, Head of the Gender Equality Department said since 2012 some provinces and cities have implemented strategies to raise people’s awareness of gender equality. They have set up clubs, support groups, reliable addresses and places of refuge to prevent and minimise the negative impact of domestic violence.
Tien emphasised the importance of developing intervention models within community with support from international organisations.
Two centres providing support on gender equality have already been established as a pilot model in Ben Tre and Dak Lak provinces. Such centres are scheduled to be replicated in Quang Ninh province in 2014, Tien said.
