(VOV) – The Statue of late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh was unveiled in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo on November 25.
Sri Lankan President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, recalled President Ho’s great life and revolutionary cause, saying he was a national hero who led the Vietnamese people through two wars of resistance to a united and independent Vietnamese nation.
President Ho provided a huge source of inspiration for other oppressed nations to fight for national liberty and freedom, he said, adding that the late President is admired and honoured by millions of people around the world, including Sri Lankans.
President Rajapaksa affirmed that the Ho Chi Minh Statue laid in Colombo will be an eternal symbol of the traditional friendship ties between Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister cum Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh thanked Sri Lankan people for their deep feelings towards Vietnam and said the inauguration of President Ho Chi Minh’s statue demonstrates the great respect held between the two nations.
Minh noted President Ho was an outstanding leader, national liberation hero and preeminent cultural activist of Vietnam. The late President visited Sri Lanka in 1911, 1928 and 1946 during his lifetime.
Colombo Mayor A.J.M Muzammil asserted that it is a great honor for the capital to have President Ho Chi Minh’s statue.
