According to the An Giang Province’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the province is discharging 1,300 tonnes of household waste every day and more than 1,126 tonnes of pesticide waste every year.


Of this, only 40 per cent of the household and pesticide waste is treated properly. The rest has been discharged into rivers and the environment, causing serious pollution in the province, according to the department.

PM approves Mekong aquaculture plan


Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a plan to develop the aquaculture industry in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta until 2020 with a vision to 2030.


Under the plan, the Mekong Delta would establish the Can Tho Aquaculture Development Centre and the Kien Giang Fishery Development Centre. The Mekong Delta is also calling for investment in 56 aquaculture projects, with a total investment of VND2.6 trillion ($123.31 million) under the plan.
