HA NOI (VNS)- The Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) has denied rumours that Chairman of the Board of Directors Tran Bac Ha had been arrested.
The bank issued a statement on Thursday evening saying that the rumours had been fabricated for illegitimate purposes.
“On the morning of February 21 while the management of BIDV was attending a meeting under the chair of Tran Bac Ha, a story broke saying that he had been arrested,” the statement said, adding that the rumour had affected BIDV’s reputation as well as the Vietnamese securities and financial markets.
The bank has reported the incident to Security Department II under the Ministry of Public Security, which said the story had been intended to manipulate the markets to make a profit.
The bank’s statement cited Major General Trinh Van Thong, vice director of Security Department II, as saying that the department was looking for the culprit.
Operations at the bank resumed as normal today.-VNS
