The People’s Council of the southern province of Binh Phuoc has chosen Major General Nguyen Van Tram, as the province’s new People’s Committee Chairman.
Tram, deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee, replaces Truong Tan Thieu, who has been relieved of his position for violating leadership and management principles.

Measures taken to tackle new bird flu strain
The Ministry of Health warned relevant agencies to develop a contingency plan for an outbreak of a new strain of avian flu called A H7N9.
While machines to check body temperature have been used at some border gates, it has been reported that it might not be the best way to detect the new strain of flu.
Ministry officials have advised that people should eat meat that has been checked and seek medical attention immediately if they have fever, cough and breathing difficulties.

State capital helps create over 171,000 jobs
Over the last 10 years (2003-12), the Viet Nam Bank For Social Policies has provided VND5.7 trillion ($271 million) in loans for poor people to get out of poverty and stabilise their lives.
The loans have led to over 171,000 new jobs, helped create stable income for 28,000 households and 61,000 students have received financial support for their studies.

PM lauds traffic safety achievements
The Primer Minister has praised 13 provinces that reduced traffic accidents by around 20 per cent in the first quarter of this year, and criticised 14 others that recorded higher fatalities compared to the same period last year.
According to the National Traffic Safety Committee, in the first two months of this year, 5,636 traffic accidents have been recorded nationwide, killing 1,973 people and injuring 5,794 others.
While the number of accidents has reduced by 746 over the same period last year, fatalities increased by 298.

Enterprises return to operation
Nearly 7,700 firms have resumed business in the first quarter of this year after having suspended operations temporarily.
During the same period, 15,700 new enterprises with a total capital of VND80 trillion (US$ 4billion) have registered to do business, a decrease of 6.8 per cent in number and 16.1 per cent in capital compared to the same period last year.
