(VOVworld) – A majority of members of Germany’s Social Democrats (SPD) have voted in favour of entering a grand coalition government led by conservative CDU/CSU of Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Barbara Hendricks, chairwoman of the electoral commission announced that there is a big chance to establish a grand coalition in Germany when nearly 76% of SPD members voted approved the plan. The biggest challenge in forming a coalition government in Germany has been removed. Under the plan, CDU President, Angela Merkel, will be elected as Chancellor in the third term on December 17. The new cabinet will take office as schedule. SPD Sigmar Gabriel will take the post of Deputy Chancellor and Minister of Economics and Energy. Frank-Walter Steinmeier of the SPD will return as Foreign Minister.
