Gia Lai hosts agriculture exhibition

Domestic farm produce and items made by craft villages will be displayed at the 2013 Agriculture Exhibition in Pleiku Town in Gia Lai Province in the Central Highlands from April 19 to 24.


The exhibition, organised by the province’s Farmers Assocciation, will attract businness from around the country. There will be 350 stands at the exhibition.

Landslides threaten Mekong villages


More than 100 locations with a total length of 56km in 36 villages along the Tien and Hau rivers in the Mekong Delta Province of Dong Thap are at risk from landslides.


Severe land erosion threatens residents in Sa Dec – Chau Thanh District and Lap Vo District on the banks of the Tien River.


The province has ordered district authorities to have emergency measures to combat land erosion in the upcoming rainy season.

City construction projects get busy


Work on 51 underground drainage projects is being done in HCM City this month, double the number before Tet (Lunar New Year ) in February.


According to the Transport Department, the construction works are on 25 downtown streets, including Le Loi, Pasteur and Phan Chu Trinh.


The department recently handed out fines totalling more than VND60 million (US$2,857) to 14 companies for obstructing traffic by leaving construction materials on streets.

City needs $476m for river tourism


HCM City will need more than VND10,000 billion (US$476 million ) to develop river tourism to 2015, according to a strategy plan drafted by the city’s Transport Department.


The city will upgrade 22 piers and wharfs and build 28 new ones. It wil also develop 65 tourist sites in districts 1, Cu Chi and Can Gio.


According to the plan, the number of river tourists will increase by 20 per cent and earnings from river tourism will rise by 30 per cent annually.
