HCM CITY (VNS) — The municipal health department on Wednesday launched the first phrase of a project that will send health staff from leading city hospitals, especially doctors, to improve healthcare at grassroots level establishments.
Doctors from Nguyen Tri Phuong, Hung Vuong, Tu Du, Trung Vuong, Gia Dinh People’s Hospital and Paediatric Hospitals No.1 and 2 will be sent on one-year deputations to hospitals in the districts of Can Gio, Nha Be, Cu Chi, Binh Chanh, 6 and 9.
Dr Tang Chi Thuong, deputy director of the municipal health department, said the project would help mitigate the problem of staff shortage at clinics and hospitals in the city’s outskirts districts.
It would also help doctors at such establishments learn from the experience and expertise of the senior doctors, he said.
Furthermore, it will facilitate the upgrade or establishment of essential wards like obstetrics and paediatrics that many hospitals in the outskirts districts do not have because of a shortage of doctors, Thuong said.
Gradually, the project will help reduce patient overload at the major city hospitals, he added.
While working at the grassroots hospitals, doctors on deputation should study the situation of illnesses and professional capacities of health staff there and suggest ways to improve it, Thuong said. — VNS
