HA NOI (VNS)— The National Assembly Standing Committee discussed the 2013 priorities of the National Assembly yesterday, the first day of its 17th session, and determined what the committee’s supervision activities would be for the year.
Supervision activities would focus on macro – issues such as sustainable development and economic restructuring, as well as related issues like hydro-power projects, energy resources, adaptation to climate change and sustainable poverty reduction.
Each NA committee can take responsibility for certain minor issues, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said.
Nguyen Van Hien, chairman of the NA’s Justice Committee, said that economic restructuring is crucial at this moment, so this process should be closely supervised – especially when it came to restructuring State-owned enterprises and the banking system.
Truong Thi Mai, Chairwoman of the NA Committee for Social Affairs, stressed the importance of evaluating poverty reduction efforts to work out what could improve in future strategies.
The committee members agreed that supervision activities should be evaluated to improve their quality.
During the eight-day session, members of the committee plan to debate the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution as well as the draft laws on employment, natural disaster prevention and mitigation, national defence and security education, terrorism prevention and plant protection and quarantine.
They will also discuss the revised laws on land and science and technology.
Tax solutions to support production and trading activities for enterprises and the State budget will be put on the table. — VNS
