HA NOI (VNS)— A pictorial book titled The Pink Choice featuring a series of photographs spotlighting the lives of gay couples in Viet Nam is set to be released nationwide.
The Pink Choice by Vietnamese photographer Maika Elan, whose real name is Nguyen Thanh Hai, features photographs from a series that recently won the top prize in the World Press Photo Contest’s Contemporary Issues Stories category.
The 27-year-old photographer, who graduated from the Ha Noi University of Social Sciences and Humanities, chose to shed light on the stories of homosexual couples in Viet Nam through her camera lens.
She spent nearly one year working with these couples to take photos of their daily lives, private moments and relationships.
The 2013 World Press Photo Contest, the 56th of its kind, featured more than 100,000 photos taken by 5,666 photographers representing 124 countries and territories. Thanks to the series, Elan became the first Vietnamese artist to win the prize.
The 48-page book is released by Nha Nam Communication and Culture Company.-VNS
