HA NOI (VNS)— National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung yesterday attended a meeting where former senior Party and Government officials commented on amendments to the 1992 Constitution.
In the last three months, more than 30,000 such meetings took place, resulting in the submission of about 20 million comments on the draft constitution, Hung said.
“This shows that the people are the masters of important national issues,” said Hung. “The people are free to express their points of view on the draft constitution in general or any particular articles or clauses. This is an important political and legal campaign to raise people’s awareness of the National Constitution as well as their respect for the nation’s highest legal document.”
Hung hoped that the old veterans would offer valuable feedback on the amendments based on their experiences in the Party and Government.
During the meeting, the participants came up with many practical comments to help the constitutional compiling committee further perfect the constitution in order to turn Viet Nam into a socialist state ruled by law and a state of the people, by the people and for the people.
The same day, President Truong Tan Sang, head of the Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reform, chaired the committee’s 10th session in Ha Noi. The committee discussed the results of polls on the draft amendments to the Constitution. — VNS
