Viet Nam welcomed 1.8 million foreign tourists and 12.3 million domestic tourists during the first quarter, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism. Most tourists were from China, South Korea and Japan. Turnover in the first quarter reached VND53.5 trillion (US$2.5 billion).

80% of enterprises to use e-taxation
Since 2009, e-taxation has been carried out in 50 provinces and cities with a total of 203,000 participating enterprises, according to the General Department of Taxation. This year, the country targets 80 per cent of all enterprises nationwide to use e-taxation.

Lai Chau disadvantaged areas get priority
On a visit to the province last Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan asked northern mountain Lai Chau Province’s leaders to give priority to develop remote and disadvantaged areas as well as areas near border gates. He also asked officials to fund boarding schools for ethnic students and houses for teachers.

Dengue fever cases on the rise
The number of patients with dengue fever nationwide last week increased to 634, an increase of 23.8 per cent compared to the previous week, one person died, according to Preventive Medicine Department.
Since the beginning of the year, 10,847 cases in 40 provinces and cities have been reported, an increase of 5.2 per cent year-on-year. Of that number, 10 people died.
