(VOVworld) – Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc praises Vietnam’s impressive results in its 20-year fight against HIV/AIDS. At the 5th national conference on HIV/AIDS, which opened in Hanoi on Monday, Phuc said that Vietnam was able to curb the epidemic, with the infection rates among the community being below 0.3%. The number of new HIV sufferers and AIDS patients and deaths from AIDS fell over 4 consecutive years. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Vietnam has controlled the epidemic and achieved the goals set out in the government’s national strategy. Phuc urged more priority to be given to HIV/AIDS studies for more effective prevention.
During the 2-day conference, 100 reports and 6 related workshops focus on HIV/AIDS prevention measures in Vietnam and Asia, an overview of HIV/AIDS situation in Vietnam from 2010 to 2013 and forecasts for the following years.
