Under a direction from Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, nearly 5,500 tons of rice from the national reserves will be distributed across 6 provinces to deal with any possible shortage of food during the lunar New Year festival (Tet).
Accordingly, Son La province will be given 2,120 tons; Ha Nam province, 574 tons; Dak Lak province, 886 tons; Ninh Binh province, 546 tons; Kon Tum province, 862 tons; and Thanh Hoa province, 506 tons.
The Prime Minister asked provincial People’s Committees to promptly distribute the amount of rice to the needy groups of people. Localities facing difficulty will be responsible for reporting to the Ministries of Finance; and Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs to propose the assistance to the Prime Minister for further support.
Earlier, on January 15, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Finance to earmark over 12,000 tons of rice from the national reserves to support 6 localities during Tet and between-crop periods. After this decision, more localities proposed nearly 30,000 tons of rice to assist hungry people./.
