Benefactors accompany with poor people to improve lives

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc January 11 and the Vietnam Red Cross Society visited and presented gifts to impoverished families, agent Orange people and disaster-stricken families in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

Phuc gave 100 gifts each worth VND1 million (US$47.4) to these families in Loc Tien Commune and charitable houses to families who lived in run-down houses. Each charitable house costs VND40 million (US$ 1,898).


On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Phuc arrived in Loc An Commune in Phu Loc District and Quang Thai , Quang Loi communes in Quang Dien District to give additional 130 gifts to residents there. The Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs in the province in coordination with Zhishan Foundation of Taiwan (China) granted scholarships and gifts to 700 primary to university students.


Bank of Investment and Development of Vietnam also handed over 150 gifts to needy residents on the occasion of Tet festive season.


The Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients Ho Chi Minh City January 11 organized a meeting to review 20 year old establishment with the participation of People’s Committee Chairman Le Hoang Quan and representatives from concerned agencies and veterans.


The association has received so far more than VND718 billion (US$34 million) from benefactors in the country. From 2010-2013, benefectors have sent over VND230 billion (US$ 10,914) to the association. Thanks to the support, more than 6,000 children suffering heart congenital diseases has undergone surgeries, over 400,000 poor blind adults and children received their eyesight after charitable operations and over 37,0000 harelip and cleft palate operations have been conducted free of charge. Everyday, around 10,000 free meals are provided to patients in hospitals in the city.

At the meeting, patrons contributed VND27 billion to the association.


Quan highly appreciated the kind contribution of benefactors expressing that they will continue in order to reduce grieves to patients and financial burden for their families. Quan expected that the association will become a place which can help impoverished patients when they are in difficulty.

On this occasion, State President gave certificates of merit to nine groups and ten people who have worked actively in charitable activites.
