Nhan Dan – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrived in Phnom Penh today, opening a three-day working visit to Cambodia. The visit comes just after Vietnam and Cambodia commemorated the 35th anniversary of the victory in the southwest border defence war and the shared victory over the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime on January 7, 1979.
We are proud of the development of solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia, particularly the new period of development in bilateral relations ushered in by the victory on January 7, 1979. Today, the bilateral relations continue to be fostered by the leaders and people of the two countries under the motto ‘good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive co-operation, long-lasting sustainability’, satisfying the demand of the current situation and bringing practical benefits to people of the two countries.
The fine bilateral political relations have been marked by high-ranking visits between the two countries, which have helped shape major orientations and concrete measures to boost the friendship and comprehensive co-operation between Vietnam and Cambodia in a deeper and more extensive manner.
Economic, trade and investment co-operation have always been a bright spot in the bilateral relations, with a rapid economic growth rate over recent years.
Two-way trade hit US$3.3 billion in 2012 and is expected to reach US$3.5 billion this year and increase to US$5 billion by 2015. Vietnam has poured over US$3 billion into 126 projects in Cambodia, focusing on industrial cultivation, mining, oil and gas, electricity, telecommunications, finance and banking, among others.
Co-operation between ministries, sectors and localities between the two countries have also been promoted. The demarcation and planting of border markers is in progress.
The two sides have pledged to keep with this job for a border of peace, friendship, stability and development.
Bilateral defence and security have been strengthened. The two countries have undertaken fine co-operation in regional and international frameworks.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s working visit to Cambodia aims to deepen the special relations between two countries, with importance attached to bilateral co-operation in economics, trade and investment.
May the visit to Cambodia by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung be successful. During the visit, the two sides will solidify signed agreements and programmes with an aim to deepening the traditional friendship and all-round co-operation between Vietnam and Cambodia, particularly promoting co-operation in economic, trade and investment aspects, thus satisfying the benefits of people of each countries, contributing to maintaining peace and stability, and enhancing co-operation and development in the region and around the world.
