First ‘Don Ca Tai Tu’ Festival 2014 to be held in Bac Lieu

The first ‘Don Ca Tai Tu’ or Southern Amateur Music Festival 2014 will be held in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu on April 20-25, according the provincial People’s Committee at a press conference on the event in Ho Chi Minh City on January 7.

The national festival themed “Don Ca Tai Tu- love of the people and southern region” will be able to attract ‘Don Ca Tai Tu’ troupes from 21 neighboring cities and provinces throughout the country.


On the occasion, a ceremony to receive the UNESCO certificate in recognition of the Don Ca Tai Tu Nam Bo (southern amateur traditional music) as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity will be also organized.


The festival will include a series of cultural activities, such as exhibitions on paintings, photos and traditional musical instruments; Don Ca Tai Tu Nam Bo (southern amateur traditional music) performances; inauguration of memorial area of the southern amateur traditional music, musician Cao Van Lau, composers Yen Lang and Trong Nguyen; seminar on preserving and promoting Don Ca Tai Tu Nam Bo; award ceremony of vong co composition contest, and the final round of Miss Talent for performing Don Ca Tai Tu Nam Bo (southern amateur traditional music).


The festival aims to keep the tradition of Don Ca Tai Tu Nam Bo alive in the community and foster a love for this particular kind of music among the people.


Many various highlight activities will also be launched during the event such as food festival, a trade and tourism fair, a seminar on tourism, trade and investment. These are expected to promote the regional tourism, attract visitors and investors to the Mekong Delta.
