While ideal places for watching fireworks on New Year’s Eve are often fully booked some days before the event in previous years, it is not especially busy this year.
By January 29, just one day before the event, a few people have paid for a place with a nice view around Sword and West Lakes as well as at rooftop cafes to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks.
The best places around the Sword Lake, such as HighLands Coffee, Soul Cafe, City View Cafe, Long Van Thuy Ta restaurant and The Kitchen have started selling tickets for the event around one week before, but have found a few customers.
Prices of tickets range from VND250,000 to VND590,000 (USD12.41-USD27.91) each depending of the view and extra services.
Hapro Bon Mua restaurant offered the cheapest price of VND250,000 each, including drinks and cakes. Even though they started to sell the tickets on January 24, they sold only ten by January 29.
The Kitchen offers an outdoor view at VND490,000 (USD23.18) each and VND590,000 (USD27.91) each, including music.
The restaurant’s manager said, to date they have just sold 70, compared to over 100 in the previous years.
“However, I expect that more people will come at the last moment,” he said.
“The price is just a bit higher than normal days but the number of customers is rather modest,” the bar’s owner said.
The same situation can be seen at Le Panorama party hall on the 19th floor of Sofitel Plaza Hanoi Hotel even though they have lowered prices to VND450,000 (USD21.29) each for adults and VND350,000 (USD16.56) for children.
Many bar owners attributed the situation to economic difficulties that force people to tighten their purse strings.
