(VOV) – The Vietnamese General Consulate in Hong Kong and Macao (China) held a ceremony on January 17 to mark the 64th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and China.

General Consul Nguyen Thi Nha reviewed the traditional friendship between Vietnam and China, noting since both countries normalised relations in 1991, their friendship and cooperative ties have developed strongly in various areas through high-ranking visit exchanges.

She recalled President Truong Tan Sang’s China visit, Premier Li Keqiang’s Vietnam visit and a meeting between PM Nguyen Tan Dung and Premier Li in 2013, saying they all helped deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership and gradually settle pending issues.

Nha noted with satisfaction the positive development of trade and economic ties between Vietnam and Hong Kong over the years. She quoted Hong Kong statistics, saying two-way trade hit US$11.2 billion between January-November 2013, a year-on-year rise of 11.6%.

By the end of 2013, Hong Kong had invested in 760 projects in Vietnam totalling US$12.6 billion, ranking it sixth among foreign investors in Vietnam.

The head of China’s representative office in Hong Kong stressed developing the China-Vietnam friendship has met the basic interests of the two nations, and that the Hong-Kong-Vietnam relations are part of the larger Vietnam-China relations.

He lauded the Vietnamese General Consulate’s efforts in strengthening friendship and cooperation between Hong Kong and Vietnam and vowed to support it in fulfilling its mission in Hong Kong.
