Police in Thai Nguyen Province have decided to prosecute the people those who incited violence at a local Samsung factory, accusing them of damaging property and public disorder.
On January 9, an argument broke out between a guard and a worker who did not bring his work card. The guard hit the worker, rendering him unconscious, which angered the worker’s colleagues. About 10,000 surrounded the scene and the guards.
Five containers and 22 motorbikes were burnt down during the clash. Even after police from Thai Nguyen Province and Pho Yen District arrived, they also had to deal with the throwing of stones and general chaos. The incident caused 11 guards and two police officers to be injured. They were taken to Pho Yen General Hospital and 91 Military Hospital.
The chairman of Thai Nguyen People’s Committee, Duong Ngoc Long, immediately held a meeting with related agencies in order to gain control the situation and restore order at the factory.
The guards are not employed by Samsung, but by Hoa Binh Security Service Company.
“We’ll have a meeting with all security agencies concerned because the violence that was caused by this dispute,” said Chairman of Pho Yen District People’s Committee Le Thanh Tuyet.
