VietNamNet Bridge – On the morning of January 9, white lather which looked like soap suds suddenly pushed up from a manhole at the Lac Long Quan – Binh Thoi junction in Ward 10, District 11, HCM City.
According to local residents, at first the suds gradually came up from the manhole. Then white suds shot up a meter high, covering the road. Many passers-by stopped and used their cell phones to capture this strange scene.
Workers of the HCM City Urban Drainage Company were shortly present at the scene to investigate the incident. When the two covers of the manhole were opened, the suds stopped foaming. The workers cleaned the road and dredge the manhole.
“It is possible that there is a bulkhead at the location of the manhole, which prevented water flow, which accumulated to create foam. The air in the sewer pushed the foam out of the manhole cover. When the cover was opened, the gas escaped so foam did not come up any more,” a worker said.
