Nguyen Thi Doan, Vietnamese Vice President cum Chairwoman of the National Fund for Vietnamese Children and Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen January 6 presented gifts to needy children, families in the top welfare brackets and poverished households in the highlands province of Kon Tum.
Speaking at the meeting with the Vice President, Kon Tum province leaders said that 34 units in the province have supported more than VND7 billion (US$ 332,499) to the fund for the poor. In addition, the province paid to 13,381 people who were serving the cause of the nation’s revolution as well as repair 81 their houses.
Moreover, the province supported over 90 percent of orphans, abandoned and homeless children and take care children and teenagers affected by Agent Orange, disabled children and children infected with HIV.
The Vice President lauded the province’s efforts in ensuring essential services expecting that Kon Tum will continue carrying out the mission well. Moreover, the province should focus to improve vocational consultation, create jobs for poor people, disabled persons, provide free health insurance card to poverished people.
On this occasion, the Vice President presented 50 gifts each worth VND2 million to disadvantaged children, poor children who achieved excellent result in learning. The amount is taken from the National Fund for Vietnamese Children to support Vietnamese children.
40 other gifts worth up to VND12 million in total were given to people who served the cause of the nation’s revolution Kon Tum Town and districts Dak Ha, Sa Thay, Kon Ray. VND100 million (US$4,743) was provided to the Social Support Center where takes care disabled, homeless children and orphans, top welfare brackets in the Tet Lunar New Year 2014.
Ms. Doan also handed VND8 million to Lai Van Tam who has three children suffering chronic disease in Village 4, Chu Hreng Commune in Kon Tum Town.
In Central Highlands province of Gia Lai, the chairwoman of the National Fund for Vietnamese Children gave four television sets to SOS Children’s Village. The total capital of over VND300 million (US$14,000) was given to two highlands provinces. The chairwoman said her fund will support more to bring a prosperous Tet holidays to needy children in the region.
