Vietnam focuses on disease prevention missions in 2014

An online meeting to implement anti disease program in 2014 in Hanoi was presided by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam with the participation of the ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, Health and concerned agencies.


Cao Duc Phat, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development said that avian flu is much reduced compared to 2012 but tests detected that the virus still circulates among birds in the country. The epidemic is more complex in the Mekong delta.


According to Nguyen Thanh Long, Deputy Health Minister, there was a decrease in cases of hand-foot-mouth and dengue fever in 2013. The health sector has inaugurated the first flu vaccine plant, the 12th plant in the world. It helps the country to actively fight against the diseases.


However, Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, Health Minister, warned of the possible outbreaks of various new flu diseases which took place in other countries.


Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam asked the ministries not to practice lax behaviors to disease prevention mission. Concerned agencies should regularly carry out ongoing program of awareness raising to better people’s understanding of the disease.
