Bilateral trade with Brazil tops $2 billion

HA NOI (VNS) — The bilateral trade between Viet Nam and Brazil hit a record of US$2.33 billion last year, representing a year-on-year rise of 42.3 per cent.


According to the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Viet Nam exported $1.14 billion worth of goods to Brazil and imported commodities worth $1.19 billion from the Latin American country, up 39.6 and 45 per cent, respectively.


Viet Nam mainly shipped phone appliances, footwear, frozen fillets, printers, yarn and rubber to Brazil. Its major import items from that country included soybean, maize, cotton, iron, steel and tobacco.


The ministry said the bilateral trade has constantly increased since 2000, from over $109 million in 2005 to more than $1 billion in 2011. — VNS
