An ethnic minority group called Co Ho Chil in a village in Lam Dong central highlands province collect pine cones in the jungle for a living.
These Tarzans usually spend more time on pine trees than on the ground. They wake up very early to prepare meal and tool set for a working day and return home when night is going to fall.
There are two seasons for gathering pine cones in the central highlands region. The first season is from May to August and the second is from September to March.
After one month harvesting pine cones, the Tarzans sell them to traders in Da Lat, Duc Trong, and Don Duong in Lam Dong for VND4,000 (US$0.2) per kg. Pine cones are used as decorations for Christmas or as handicraft products.
