VietNamNet Bridge – A suspension bridge in Chu Va 6 hamlet, Son Binh commune, Tam Duong District in Lai Chau province collapsed this morning, February 24, killing at least seven people and injuring 33 others.
Photo: VOV According to witnesses, the bridge gave way when a large funeral procession attempted to walk across it, resulting in the members falling into the rocky streams below. The incident occured at about 8.30am.
Local authorities and residents immediately evacuated the injured to the district’s hospital emergency room.
Officials said the 54m long and 9 m high suspension bridge has been in use for over one year and there were more than 20 people on the bridge when it collapsed.
