Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Vietnam recently announced the launch of three projects worth 3 million Euros, to support Vietnam in combating illegal wood exploitation, promote business and legal timber products and sustainable use of forests in Vietnam.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Dr. Franz Jessen, Ambassador – Head of the EU Delegation in Vietnam, said Vietnam was one of the pioneering partners of the EU Action Plan against illegal wood exploitation and improving forest governance.
Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) between Vietnam and the European Union has provided a legal framework and monitoring system to ensure that all timber imported into the EU from Vietnam was legally purchased, exploited, transported and exported. Therefore, wood and wood products from Vietnam can maintain a foothold in the EU market while increasing access to other markets.
