March 04, 2014 – The Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs summarized five years implementing unemployment insurance of the Social Insurance Law in Quang Nam. PPC Vice Chairman Huynh Khanh Toan attended the meeting.
Reportedly, there were 1,382 agencies and organizations with 68,158 laborers taking part in unemployment insurance in 2009. These numbers increased to 2,038 and 99,251 in 2013, which represents an increase of 47.5% and 45.6% respectively over 4 years. There have been 14,190 laborers registering for unemployment compensation since 2010. Most of unemployed registrations are in cities and districts with industrial zones and clusters, such as Chu Lai Open Economic Zone. Accordingly, there have been 18,355 turns of laborers receiving unemployment compensation worth over VND 79 billion.
After 5-year implementation, unemployment insurance proved to be a meaningful social security policy, which supports laborers in difficulty, and helps them soon come back to labor market. With this role, unemployment insurance has attracted active participation of numerous employers and employees. However, there still are some businesses and employees not obeying legal regulations on voluntary insurance due to their limited awareness of this issue.
PPC Vice Chairman Huynh Khanh Toan asked related agencies to continue promoting this idea with various activities, focusing on holding public-private dialogues on labor and job policies. In addition, he requested that local authorities pay more attention to the supervision and handling violations of the Social Insurance Law.
