Nhan Dan/ VNA – Vietnam has outlined its financial co-operation plans with the US and Japan for 2014 and beyond during Finance Minister Dinh Tien Dung’s 10-day tour to the countries, which ended on March 14.


In the US, Minister Dung held working sessions with executives of the New York Stock Exchange, Coca Cola and Metlife Insurance, and attended meetings with senior US official, including the secretary of the treasury and the Federal Reserve chair.


In an interview granted to a New York-based Vietnam News Agency correspondent, Minister Dung said US officials have appreciated Vietnam ‘s efforts to stabilise the macro economy and restructure its national economy.


While delighted with the progress made in trade and investment over recent times, both sides agreed that that level has yet to match its capacity, he said.


Regarding negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, Minister Dung said both sides have agreed to push for an early signing of the agreement.


In Japan, Dung proposed that the host increase ODA to Vietnam, especially in the form of direct budget assistance.


The Vietnamese Ministry signed two agreements with the Japan International Cooperation Agency, borrowing US$250 million for improvements to the national climate change response and steps toenhance economic management and competitiveness.


He stressed that Vietnam will work to make it easier for foreign businesses, including those from Japan and the, to invest further in the country.
