NA Chairman receives OIF General Secretary

(VOV) – National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung on March 13 welcomed General Secretary of the International Francophone Organization (OIF) Abdou Diouf who is conducting a working visit to Vietnam for the celebration of the International Francophone Day (March 20).



Hung thanked the OIF for its support for Vietnam in various fields including law-making, child protection and gender equality.


The top legislator spoke highly of the organization’s role in helping its member countries consolidate law-governed states, promote democracy and deal with crises and conflicts.

He said he hopes that the OIF official’s visit will make a great success, marking a new step of development in relations between Vietnam and the OIF.


Hung also briefed his guest on the NA’s activities, especially the adoption of the 2013 Constitution while asking OIF members to increase cooperation for mutual benefits.


Vietnam will do its utmost to make positive contributions to the OIF’s growth and the Francophone Parliamentary Assembly (FPA) for the sake of peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world, he said.


The NA leader asked the OIF and FPA to encourage parliamentarians from the Francophone countries to take part in the 132nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132) scheduled for Vietnam in March 2015.


For his part, Abdou Diouf expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s vigorous development and spoke highly of the country’s role and status in his organization, particularly its FPA sub-committee’s contributions and initiatives.
