PANO – A week-long program to promote labour safety and prevent labour-related accidents, occupational diseases and explosions in the workplace was kicked off on March 16th at the Phu Bai Industrial Park in the Central province of Thua Thien-Hue.
The year 2013 saw active change in this field as workers and employers’ awareness and working conditions improved considerably. The number of accidents was decreased by 80 cases year-on-year.
However, more than 6,600 labour accidents were recorded in 2013, killing 627 people and injuring over 1,500, and causing losses of VND 71.85 billion.
Meanwhile, 100 people were killed and nearly 200 others were injured in 2,700 fires and explosions across the country.
During the week, the organization panel will hold training courses and seminars on labour safety and prevention of labour-related accidents, occupational diseases and explosions.
