Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon will make a 4-day visit to Vietnam starting this Tuesday to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in industry and trade.
Their accompanying team will include the Norwegian Minister of Trade, Industry and Fisheries and over 80 businessmen.
The visiting delegation will hold several conferences on measures meant to increase trade between the two countries.
Prince Haakon has told Vietnam News Agency that his visit would focus on stepping up diplomatic relations — which were established more than 40 years ago — cultural bonds, and trade.
He acknowledged Vietnam as a major trade partner, hoping to boost cooperation in many sectors from hydropower, navigation and fisheries to tourism, and oil and gas.
He also hoped talks for a free-trade agreement between the European Free Trade Association and Vietnam would end this year to offer Norway and Vietnam opportunities alike for an expansion of mutual relations.
As of the end of 2012, Norwegian investors ranked 39th among Vietnam’s 98 foreign investors with a total investment of $100.5 million, according to the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency.
Bilateral trade then exceeded $257 million, a slight increase from 2011.
