An Australian woman was killed on Wednesday afternoon in the southern Vietnamese resort town of Mui Ne after a bus crashed head on into the motorbike she and her husband were riding.


The woman, initially identified by the police as Wilcon Kayleen, 56, was rushed to a local hospital but was announced dead. Her husband was slightly injured, according to police.


The bus driver, Kiem Duoc, 41, was arrested by local police after he attempted to flee the scene and drove nearly 20 kilometers further.


Kiem Duoc told the police he was driving from Mui Ne to Phan Thiet Town when he veered left to pass another parking bus near Mui Ne Bus Station. His bus collided with the Australian couple’s motorbike which was running in the opposite direction.


The victim and her husband are staying in a resort in Mui Ne.
