She highlighted the visit as a milestone in the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two nations.
(VOV) – Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan has affirmed Vietnam’s recognition of importance to strengthening relations with Scandinavian nations including Norway at her talks with the visiting Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon Magnus in Hanoi on March 19.
In response, the Norwegian Crown Prince and Princess are very impressed with Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and its enhanced role in the region and wider world.
They also affirmed that the Norwegian Royal Government has always paid special attention to promoting cooperation with Vietnam.
Both host and guests expressed satisfaction at the positive developments in friendship and all sided cooperation between Vietnam and Norway over the past few years, especially in politics, diplomacy, economics, trade, investment, education and training.
They agreed to maintain high-level exchange visits, and continue to cooperate at both multilateral and international forums, especially at the United Nations, ASEAN and ASEM.
Norway also thanked Vietnam for its support in strengthening relations with ASEAN and accelerate the adoption of the draft joint declaration on ASEAN-Norway partnership.
The Crown Prince has voiced his nation’s determination to expanding economic, trade and investment cooperation with Vietnam.
Vice President Doan reiterated Vietnam’s willingness to facilitate Norwegian businesses’ long-term operations in the country, especially in the areas of Norway’s strength such as navigation, shipbuilding, hydroelectricity, renewable energy, oil and gas and aquaculture.
Both sides also agreed to work hand in hand to speed up the finalisation of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) in 2014 and create a favourable framework for promoting future trade and investment.
She also extended gratitude to Norway for providing ODA capital to Vietnam over the years which has made important contribution to the country’s socio-economic development and international economic integration.
Norway pledged to resume ODA funding for Vietnam in the future, with a focus on such fields as climate change, forest protection, management of natural resources, education and training.
During his Vietnam trip, the Crown Prince will pay a courtesy visit to State President Truong Tan Sang and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, chair a Vietnam-Norway business roundtable on FTA negotiations between Vietnam and EFTA as well as visit some Norway-funded projects and several historic and cultural sites in Hue and HCM City.
The Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon Magnus and Crown Princess Mette-Marit are conducting their official visit to Vietnam on March 18-21 at the invitation of Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan.
