A total of VND 48 trillion (US$2.28 billion) has been spent on electricity infrastructure in the countryside, said Minister Vu Huy Hoang at a conference hosted on April 26.

An additional VND30 trillion (US$1.42 billion) is needed to supply 99 percent of households in rural areas.

Victoria Kwakwa, director of the World Bank in Vietnam appreciated Vietnam’s success in electrifying the countryside.

The World Bank will continue to give financial assistance for the countryside electrification in the next phase 2014-2020, said Kwakwa.

Countryside electrification was successfully carried out in the phase 1998-2013 due to efforts of central and local authorities and assistance from residents, said Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai.
