Art show raises over VND19.3 billion for needy people

(VOV) – More than VND19.3 billion was raised at a charity exchange in Hanoi on April 13 in observance of Vietnam Day of People with Disabilities (April 18).



The annual event aims to honour outstanding disabled people and orphans across the country, as well as benefactors, and raise funds to assist them gain access to a better and more fulfilling quality of life.


Buddhist monk Thich Dinh Tanh, head of Cam Phong Pagoda in Tay Ninh province, was honoured for his contributions to caring for 210 disadvantaged people, while Vietnam Protect Company was singled out for designing production lines for the handicapped which now make up 30% of its payroll.

Participants had a chance to exchange with Tran Van Dieu – a disabled person and the owner of the Xuan Dieu woodcarving workshop who has won many medals at domestic and international sports tournaments.


They also enjoyed a special art performance with the participation of singers Thai Thuy Linh, Thuy Chi and Duong Hoang.


Through ten programmes, organizers have actively mobilised contributions from the community for disabled people and orphans to help them have a better life.


The proceeds, plus more than VND10 billion from a recent charity walk, will be used for conducting cataract surgeries, presenting wheelchairs, providing vocation training and generating jobs for disabled people and orphans across the country.
